Although the album can be atmospherically reflective and introspective, the sardonic tone and thematic ironies are clearly characteristic of a man who has kept a sense of humor throughout his generation's disillusionment with contemporary culture. Feminism, shared housing, astrology, country music, the lighter side of debt and sex are all fair game for contemplation and acerbic commentary. The album is peppered with playful, diverse arrangements and winds up with a rather literate Buddy Holly imitation, Quintessentia... delightfully strummed on an acoustic 12-string. Although Twang seems to have his tongue permanently stuck in his cheek, there is a gritty reality check here for anyone interested in stepping back from the tyranny of p.c. conciousness and having a few laughs in the process.
